waiting
for his parents to die.
But they never seem
to be getting sick,
much less dying.
So he goes to her
and tells her: I love you
with my life
and I will convert
to become one
of your religion;
I will submerge
and be reborn
in your circle.
She accepts him
and they marry and go to live
with his family.
And each weekend
he takes her to join relatives
in shaman ceremonies.
She doesn’t like it,
but he tells her:
What can I do?
I am a dutiful son;
we’ll just have to wait
till my parents die,
then we can rejoin
the new
Religion.
