Pismo Beach

The Shelter Cove Lodge perches
above the white cliffs.

An arching bridge spans the lodge
with a cliff isle

where a lacquered gazebo
opens up the panorama of the sea shore.

Sea birds serenade the rising sun
among their homes of jagged cliffs and flat-table boulders.

To the southeast, Pismo Pier walks
on steely legs into the sea.

The long flat beach invites long white waves
that break in rainbow sprays.

Surfers flock to the waves
like a flock of birds.

Silver-hair surfers, rosy cheek girls,
young men, teen-age boys in their black wetsuits ride the waves.

Among them, a rare Asian man,
surprising as seeing the California eagle.
